What is Flexiboard?

Flexiboard is our new lightweight, thin plastic product, perfect for easy storage. It's water-proof and scratch-resistant, however it's not strong enough to hold its shape on its own and we recommend pairing it with either a wood or acrylic insert to act as a base. It is also flexible but care should be taken not to bend it more than 90 degrees as this may cause it to break. For further details about Flexiboard, please check out the featured posts in our Facebook Group

Activities:

  1. Self-Portraits:

    • Drawing Faces: Provide children with the blank face insert in acrylic and art supplies (dry erase markers, dry erase crayons). Encourage them to draw their own faces, focusing on features like eyes, nose, mouth, and hair.
  2. Emotions Exploration:

    • Printable Emotions: Print different facial expressions and place them under the acrylic piece. Children can trace or draw over these expressions using dry erase markers to learn about various emotions.
    • Play Dough Faces: Provide play dough and encourage children to model facial features on the blank face insert. Have them create different facial expressions to represent various emotions.
  3. Matching Game:

    • Emotion Matching: Print and cut out emotion cards. Have children match these cards to the faces they draw or create on the blank face insert with play dough.
    • Emotion Tracing: Place an emotion card under the acrylic overlay and have children trace the expression with dry erase markers.
  4. Storytelling:

    • Character Creation: Use the blank face insert and acrylic overlay to create characters for stories. Children can draw or model different faces and tell stories about the characters' adventures and emotions.
    • Emotion Stories: Have children draw or model different emotions on the blank face insert and then create stories based on those emotions. For example, "This character feels happy because..."
  5. Group Activities:

    • Collaborative Art: Have children work together to create a large mural using multiple blank face inserts, each representing a different emotion or character.
    • Emotion Sharing: In a group setting, have children share the faces they created and discuss the emotions represented. This promotes social skills and emotional awareness.
  6. Educational Integration:

    • Learning Themes: Integrate the blank face insert into thematic units, such as a unit on family, friends, or community helpers. Children can create faces that represent different people in their lives.
    • Math and Literacy: Incorporate counting and writing activities. For example, count how many happy faces were created or write a short story about a face they drew.
  7. Calming Activity:

    • Mindfulness Drawing: Use the acrylic overlay for mindfulness activities. Have children draw calming scenes or their "happy place" on the blank face insert to help regulate emotions.

Additional Materials:

  • Emotion Printouts: Download and print sheets with various facial expressions. These can be placed under the acrylic piece for tracing or used as references for drawing and modeling with play dough.
  • Dry Erase Markers: For use with the acrylic overlay, allowing for easy changes and re-drawing.
  • Play Dough: Various colors for modeling facial features and expressions.

These activities and materials help maximize the educational value of the blank face insert, providing children with interactive, engaging, and multifaceted learning experiences related to self-expression, emotions, and creativity.
