What is Flexiboard?

Flexiboard is our new lightweight, thin plastic product, perfect for easy storage. It's water-proof and scratch-resistant, however it's not strong enough to hold its shape on its own and we recommend pairing it with either a wood or acrylic insert to act as a base. It is also flexible but care should be taken not to bend it more than 90 degrees as this may cause it to break. For further details about Flexiboard, please check out the featured posts in our Facebook Group.

Here are some ways it can be effectively used to promote skills such as vocabulary, story retelling, hand-eye coordination, and more:

  1. Vocabulary Development: Introduce and reinforce vocabulary related to dragons, tacos, sharks, and fish. Use descriptive words to discuss the features of the dragon and shark.

  2. Story Retelling: Utilize both sides of the insert for story retelling activities. Children can switch between the dragon and shark sides to create imaginative and diverse narratives.

  3. Hand-Eye Coordination: Incorporate feeding activities on both sides. Children can feed tacos to the dragon and fish to the shark, enhancing hand-eye coordination as they aim to place items accurately.

  4. Imaginative Play: Encourage imaginative play by allowing children to create their own stories and scenarios involving both the dragon and the shark. This fosters creativity and storytelling skills.

  5. Fine Motor Skills Development: Handling small items like tacos and fish for feeding involves fine motor skills. This helps in the development of hand strength and coordination.

  6. Sequencing Skills: Arrange the tacos and fish in a sequence, prompting children to practice sequencing and ordering based on the events in the stories they create.

  7. Math Concepts: Introduce basic math concepts such as counting the number of tacos and fish, sorting them, or creating simple addition and subtraction scenarios during play.

  8. Color Recognition: If the tacos and fish come in different colors, incorporate color recognition activities. Children can match or sort the items by color on both sides.

  9. Collaborative Play: Encourage collaborative play where children take turns feeding both the dragon and the shark. This promotes cooperation, sharing, and social interaction.

  10. Extension to Cooking and Ocean Themes: Extend learning by discussing cooking concepts related to tacos and ocean-related themes with the shark. Explore ingredients, cooking processes, and underwater adventures.

  11. Customization for Individual Learning Goals: Adapt the activities based on individual learning goals, ensuring that they cater to the diverse needs and interests of children.

  12. Discussion of Book Themes: If "Dragons Love Tacos" is the inspiration, use the dragon side for discussions related to the book's themes. Similarly, explore themes related to sharks and oceans on the other side.

  13. Role-Playing and Social Skills: Engage children in role-playing scenarios related to both dragons and sharks. This enhances social skills, creativity, and an understanding of different environments.

  14. Language and Communication Skills: Encourage children to express themselves verbally during play. Discuss their choices, share ideas, and communicate about the dragon, shark, tacos, and fish.

  15. Extension to Art and Craft: Enhance the activities by incorporating art and craft elements. Children can create their own dragon or shark-related art to complement the play.

"Duck Duck Play" in partnership with Practically Playing offers a dynamic and adaptable learning experience, providing opportunities for play-based exploration, creativity, and skill development.
